Forming over a decade ago, Sweet Potato Pie mixes a classy blend of bluegrass, country and gospel music all together in a style called “sweetgrass”. With Sonya Stead on guitar, Crystal Richardson on banjo, Katie Springer on fiddle, and Sandy Whitley on upright bass, this band performs all over the east coast but their hearts are still in the Carolinas. Being an all female group, their unique sound revolves around their sparkling 3-part harmonies and their addictive beats and performances. Having 5 great albums under their belt I challenge you to NOT find yourself tapping your toes or bouncing in your seat while listening to their music. We certainly can’t help it which is another reason why our show is audio only!
Sweet Potato Pie currently records with Mountain Fever Records and has had several chart topping songs on Bluegrass and Gospel Radio. They were a finalist in the (International Bluegrass Association) or SPGMA band competition and have done several worldwide radio broadcast from historic locations in Nashville, TN. They’ve also taped a show for PBS which will air in 2012. Sponsored by the NC Sweet Potato Growers this band anticipates their newest album release in early 2012.
